This month we concentrated on wayleave maintenance under the power lines from the Lenah Valley over Knocklofty to the South Hobart, removing any young eucalyptus, wattle or other tall woody scrub that might interfere with the lines. The last day we had a visit by three representatives from TasNetworks and two from their contractor ‘ACTIVE trees’. They were all very …

Early in October we did the last tour of Providence Rivulet gully, hand pulling a lot of the forget-me-nots. Then we had a week of very inclement weather and very few people came to our flora walk and plant -give-away. Similarly, the roving weeding of KR 22/23 on the following Thursday was miserable

This month we concentrated on the forget-me-nots in Providence Valley Rivulet. It will take some time, but you can see, where we have been able to keep the ground clear of flowers, the endemic grasses are settling in and being enjoyed by the marsupials.  We did the annual maintenance of Salvator Rosa Glen, and also cleared the ‘right of way’ …

The wattles are in full flowers all over the reserve, and it is a delight to walk past and smell the bloom. This month we went through the areas above the Weerona Trail and Sandy Spit Track. We try to sweep through all of Knocklofty Reserve once a year, and sometimes you think: “ We have the introduced plants under control!” Then we have a cool wet spring and early summer, and it is surprising how many weeds and young gorse ‘pop …

In late January I noticed an unfamiliar sedge in Salvator Rosa Glen. So, our first activity in February clearing the lower part of the Glover Track of hemlock, broom and some gorse was cut short, as we decided to have a look at the top end of Salvator Rd. to see where the sedge came from, and if we would …
