This month we concentrated on the area above the Weerona Trail, where we planted grass in August 2020. Hoeing and cut and dab the small thistles, bone seed and gorse. The grasses both old and new seem to cope with the dry, and this week’s rain would have given them a boost.
On Sunday it was the area past the boom gate that was cleared three years ago, that we checked for re-growth gorse and other weeds. Here we found another escaped garden plant, that a couple of us have seen before. Gabrielle, our COH supervisor looked it up and it seems to be. https://www.weedbusters.org.nz/what-are-weeds/weed-list/stinking-iris/
So if you see some lovely red seed heads as shown in the pictures, while roaming the reserve, let us know.
